With external colaboration, we are pleased to announce Haiku Leaf.

Leaf is a custom search only for BeOS related sites. The website is still in Beta stage, the engine is ready to Use but not many websites are indexed. We expect to have the index ready at the end of January of the comming 2009.

The website is already usable, and you can help improving our index by submitting those Haiku/BeOS/ZETA unknown websites:

It has been a long time since the first release of ZSA in 2006. While this time we have been forced to move our aim from ZETA back to R5 and eventually to Haiku.

We also found time to change the website location and philsophy. Now it is a blog-styled web going on with our low cost software creation way. Non professional maybe, but all the incoming is totally dedicated to development. And we need something that allows as to keep all informed, at a low cost of money and time effort.

As said, ZSA has become a R5 compatible application ready to be used as well in Haiku. We take benefit of the oportunity to announce a new version with minor fixes and features but now in R5 as well. See the screenshot and feel free to make new suggestions.

ZSA is the application which allows you to evaluate the results of a
scanned body by MR and Voxel handling.

To have and use this application, you just need to install the ZETA/
BeOS/Haiku Operating Systems in your computer and run it.

ZSA stands for the old name of a small university project "ZETA for
Scientific Applications". As many others, was a unfinished project not
ready in the need of some time and motivation to make it public, After some
weeks of work here are the results.

Pretends to be a tool for handling and previewing all these kind of huge
amount of data models, as long as a starting point to bring to the platform
tools as the VTK toolkit or Mayavi.

Features:

- Working with RAW models 8 and 16 bits and high resolution volumens
- Resampling from 8 to 16 bits and vice-versa
- Exporting to VTK file format for the vtk Toolkit or Mayavi Software
- Performance of values histograms for furher analisystools
- Sections/slide browsing of the volumes in the 3D Axis.

Redraw Histogram: Forces the redrawing of the histogram.

Avoid null color Value: A big part of volumes contains a high quantity of the 0 value(black). As the drawing of the histogram is calculated by the most given value, sometimes could happen that this given value is too much repeated and provokes all other bars values being really small. As comented this value uses to be the null value (0, black). Activating this option the Black color will not be taken in consideration to draw the histogram.

Fill Bars: By default ZSA will create the histogram with empty rectangles, activating this option they will be filled with the color specified by the next option.

Match Color: Will make the histogram bars use the color that they actually represent in the model.

Follow Marks: Activating this function will make the mark follow the focus of the mouse without having to perform a click to show the mark.

Placing a mark in the histogram can be usefull to know the actual data that its being shown by a concrete bar. Easily can be seen just by clicking on it, then a text label will appear with the value that the bar represents and the number of times this value has been repeated in the working volume.

Main Menu

Using main menu will provide you to reach to the options that you would like to
see on your picture. Moreover the "Histogram Menu"helps you to see the 3 Axis volumed images with "fill bars","match color" and "follow marks" submenus.

Section Browser

With the section browser you can browse your image in the small window which is shown your image in.

General Procedures

To start working with ZSA you need to import a model. Additionally, importing a model implies that you need to know the dimensions of the model and its bitrate.

Note: PVM models can be converted into RAW models with the tool included in the software. Some of the models provided by the Links section have this format.

After clicking on Import->RAW you will be able to select a file and inform about the features of the model as can be seen in the picture.

ZSA will abort the loading if the file is not big enough to fit the dimensions specified. By the other hand if there are bytes remaining to be loaded in the file those will be ignored

Image Loading

If the model has been loaded you will see the histogram in the main window

Together with the visualitzation of the models the data conversion is one of the features of ZSA.

ZSA allows you to convert your work into either RAW or VTK formats while exporting

RAW: You can resample your model by exporting to a RAW file. 8 bits models will be upsampled to 16 and, 16 bits models will be downsampled to 8 bits.

VTK: By the other hand ZSA keeps the look to the open standard formats as VTK.

With Sections Menu, there are 2 options: Model Sections and Amplify x2.

Model Sections displays what you are looking for. Additional that you can open as much X , Y, Z section windows as you want.

When the option Amplify x2 is activated, all section windows are zoomed. (Makes bigger dimensions)

Sections

The section slider allows you to browse between the slides of the volume. You can also use the left and right buttons below the slider. Aditionally the Play button will start an animation according to the last direction.

Note that the number of slides in a concrete axis can be known with the right value of the slider

As it was pointed out above, you can change the color of the view. Options Menu is a key of which helps you to see the visualization in main colors Red, Green, Blue
